[flashvideo file=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DIsjgZoLO0 /] Hawaii’s Garret McNamara is claiming to have broken the world record for largest wave ever surfed. The ride took place yesterday, November 8, in Praia do Norte, Nazare, on the southern shores of Portugal.

McNamara, of Hale’iwa, Oahu, estimated the wave height to be 90 feet. Outlets, including the Huffington Post and SurferToday.com, are also saying the world record has been broken.

Various sources claim that the current record is held by Mike Parsons for surfing a 77 foot wave in 2008.
