Those who may not want to slave away in front of the stove and oven all day on the 24th have a reprieve in the form of Zippy’s Thanksgiving Meals To-Go.  Pre-orders for turkey dinners will come to a close tomorrow, so anyone interested in saving some time and devoting the day to football, or anything else of interest, will want to get their phone or online orders in now.

For $82.95 a whole turkey package includes a 10-12 pound roast turkey cooked and ready to reheat with three pounds of stuffing, four pounds of mashed potatoes, four pounds of gravy, one pound of cranberry or pineapple relish and one dozen sweet dinner rolls. The half-turkey package is half the price at $42.95 for a half-roast turkey, measuring five to six pounds, one and half pounds of stuffing, two pounds of mashed potatoes, two pounds of gravy, a half pound of cranberry or pineapple relish and six sweet dinner rolls.

“We sell hundreds of turkey dinners,” said counter help/waitress Shelby Kaninau, 19. She’s worked at Zippy’s since 2009, and has seen the mania that turkey day brings.  Glancing at the large, but not immense kitchen at the Kahului Zippy’s, makes one immediately aware, that hundreds of turkeys cannot be cooked there.

Kaninau provided the answer and said that the cooked turkeys are shipped from the O’ahu Zippy’s in a big Matson truck. “But all of the pies are made here,” she said with a smile.

“We are all on staff on Wednesday and Thursday, handing out turkeys. The Matson container is backed into the parking lot…it gets crazy,” said Kaninau, with a chuckle. For $8.25 per pie, customers can choose to add, up to two custard and/or pumpkin pies to their turkey day dinner package.
