MPD Promotes Former Officer of the Year, Silva

Lt. David Silva.

The Maui Police Department promoted Sgt. David Silva to the rank of Lieutenant, effective December 1, 2011.

Silva is a 24-year veteran of the department and is currently assigned to the Wailuku Patrol Division.

In 2009, Silva was the recipient of the Officer of the Year Award from the Hawaii State Law Enforcement Officers Association.

Under his guidance, the MPD juvenile division was selected by the Maui News for recognition in their list of People Who Made A Difference in 2008.

That year, the team made 88 arrests for prohibitions involving underage drinking and received the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Law Enforcement Award for their efforts.

Silva has served in the Lahaina, Kihei, and Hana Patrol Divisions, as well as Internal Affairs, Criminal Investigation and Juvenile Sections.

In addition to his regular assignment, Silva is also trained as a Crisis Negotiator, a Mobile Command Vehicle Operator, and has served as an instructor for the incoming recruit classes.

Lieutenant Silva is married to Debbie Silva and has two children, Tiffany and Celeste and a granddaughter, Mahina.
