Jack Johnson To Play Two Maui Shows
By Madeline Ziecker
One of Hawaii’s – and the world’s – favorite musicians, Jack Johnson, will perform two shows at the MACC this spring on Wednesday, April 25 and on Thursday, April 26.
Tickets will go on sale starting Saturday, March 3 at 9 a.m. At the request of Johnson’s management, all tickets will be sold exclusively in person at the MACC Box Office. A limit of two tickets can be purchased per person (but not two per show).
Joining Johnson on his recently announced Acoustic Tour will be other renowned Hawaiian performers John Cruz and Paula Fuga, in celebration of Johnson’s soon-t0-be-released compilation album Jack Johnson & Friends – Best of Kokua Festival.
Jack Johnson & Friends – Best of Kokua Festival is 13-track compilation of live performances from six years of Johnson’s annual “Kokua Festival,” a benefit concert for Kokua Hawaii Foundation which supports environmental education in the schools and communities of Hawaii.
The new album features internationally-adored talents who have contributed to the “Kokua Festival” including Willie Nelson, Ben Harper, Eddie Vedder, Dave Matthews, Jake Shimabukuro, Ziggy Marley, Taj Mahal, Damian Marley, and more. The release date is scheduled for April 17 by Brushfire Records.
Johnson personally announced his Maui visit in a newsletter to fans prior to the MACC’s announcement. The rest of Johnson’s tour will include seven dates of all-acoustic music performed on Oahu, Kauai, and Hawaii (Big Island).
Proceeds from both the tour and the album will go to Kokua Hawaii Foundation, which says a lot about Johnson’s character and his clear understanding of aloha.
In his roll as a chart-topping musician, Jack Johnson is to Hawaii as Ray Charles was to Georgia. Can anyone make or order banana pancakes anymore without thinking of him?
