Maui Group Hosts Domestic Violence Talk Story

A talk story session on domestic violence takes place today from 10 a.m. to noon at the J. Walter Cameron Center in Wailuku.

The event, hosted by the Hawaii State Coalition Against Domestic Violence comes as the county faces a 37% increase in intimate partner violence in 2011 over 2010, according to coordinator, Alicia Yang.

Among the items slated for discussion is the $2,000 mini-grant program offered by the coalition, health care protocols for domestic violence victims, and educating young children on prevention.

Discussion may also include educating employers about new and existing laws preventing employment discrimination against domestic violence victims, and the need for domestic violence services and rights education for immigrant women.
