Maui Police Celebrate Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
By Wendy Osher
The Maui Police Department wraps up its observance today of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
The observance is a tribute to Emergency Service Dispatchers on the islands of Maui and Moloka’i who back up the island’s officers, firefighters, and paramedics each day.
An administrative order issued by Maui Police Chief Gary Yabuta acknowledges the island dispatchers for their efforts in bridging the gap between sanity and safety.
Their satisfaction, he said, “is that every officer, firefighter, and paramedic goes home safely at the end of their shift, and that they provided these first responders with the best lifeline service possible.”
A special presentation is planned from 11 a.m. today to recognize employees of the Maui Police Department’s Communications division.
