2 Pulled From Maui Waters in Near Drownings

Emergency responders assisted with two separate incidents on Wednesday (April 18) in which individuals were pulled from waters off of Maui.

In the first incident, authorities say an 83-year-old woman was pulled from the water fronting the Hale Pau Hana in Kihei.

According to first responders, the woman was not breathing and was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.

The incident was reported at 12:10 p.m. and included response from the Maui Fire Department’s Ladder 14, Ocean Safety Jet Ski 1, and Medic 14 from Wailea.

Also on Wednesday, emergency crews were dispatched to reports of a swimmer in distress at the Sheraton hotel in West Maui.

Upon arrival, at 12:23 p.m., medics and an engine crew from Napili found at 68-year-old man that was pulled from the water with complaints of difficulty breathing.

Authorities say the man was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in serious condition.
