Sticker Shock Calls on Maui Adults to “Be A Jerk”
By Wendy Osher
The Hawaii All-Stars cheerleaders will lead a “Be A Jerk” sticker shock and sign waving campaign this Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Minit Stop in Wailuku.
“Be A Jerk” is an award-winning campaign launched to reduce youth access to alcohol by changing community practice, knowledge and policy.
The effort focuses on community organizing efforts to change the environment that contribute to the use of alcohol among youth.
Although the message is youth related, the awareness effort targets the entire community rather than individual young people.
The Hawaii All-Stars is a competitive cheerleading team comprised of youth from various intermediate and high schools on Maui.
They are 2012 state and national champions.
Members of the squad are participating in the effort because they support a reduction in youth access to alcohol, and their belief in giving back to the community.
The sticker shock effort runs from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Minit Stop location at 745 East Lower Main Street in Wailuku.
