Maui police have identified the motorcyclist killed in a crash on the Kula Highway Friday night (April 20) as Jason Williamson, 41, of Kula.

Williamson suffered fatal injuries when the red 2004 Honda XR250 dirt motorcycle he was operating, collided with the right passenger side of a silver 2004 Jeep Cherokee that executed a left turn in front of him, according to a police report prepared by Sgt. Jamie Becraft of the MPD Vehicle Homicide Unit.

Police say the dirt motorcycle was traveling north on the Highway. The Jeep was traveling in the opposite direction, and executing a left turn into the Keokea Community Park.

The accident was reported just before 7 p.m. on the Kula Highway, 0.2 miles South of Cross Road, near mile post 16 of the Highway.

The Jeep was driven by a 41-year-old Pukalani man who was uninjured. Two Pukalani residents, who were passengers within the Jeep, were transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment.

Police say the 39-year-old woman who was seated in the back passenger seat was treated and released for a contusion to her forehead and multiple facial lacerations. The 3-year-old boy seated in the middle of the rear seat, was treated and released after sustaining facial lacerations.

Police say the dirt motorcycle operator, Williamson, was wearing a helmet, but died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

The involvement of alcohol, speed, and drugs are still pending police investigation.

Authorities say the man operating the motorcycle-type vehicle was wearing a helmet, but was found unconscious with multiple traumatic injuries.

“Despite the administration of Advanced Life Support measures by the Maui County Paramedics Association crew, the patient died of his injuries on scene,” said MCPA spokesperson Ryan Joslin.

Two of the occupants within the vehicle were taken by ambulance in stable condition to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment, authorities said.

Maui police closed the road in the area at 7:30 p.m. to conduct an investigation.

Other crews responding to the scene included multiple police units and the Maui Fire Department’s Engine 13.
