East Maui Waiohonu Bridge Replacement to Begin
By Wendy Osher
Work to replace the Waiohonu Bridge in East Maui begins tomorrow.
Work on the project is scheduled to run from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays, with completion slated by March 6, 2013.
A public notice details project plans including demolition of the existing bridge and associated structures, constructing the replacement bridge and guard-walls, reconstructing pavement areas, installing water lines, signage, and pavement markers.
Plans also call for the removal of a detour road and temporary stream crossing structure, as well as restoration of properties to existing conditions.
A notice to bidders had placed the estimated construction cost at between $1 million and $5 million.
The $2.66 million contract was awarded to Global Specialty Contractors, Inc. out of Honolulu.
