Maui Brush Fire Burns 1 Acre Near Luana Gardens

A small, 1-acre brush fire was quickly brought under control last night near the Luana Gardens apartments in Kahului.

The incident was reported at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2012, off of Kamehameha Avenue in an area of brush.

The first units arrived on scene at 10:37 p.m., and the fire was brought under control by 11:15 p.m., according to Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

Responding to the incident were crews from the Maui Fire Department’s Engine 10, Tanker 10, Haz-mat 10, and Engine 1.

Authorities say the fire was extinguished at 1 a.m. and the cause is undetermined.
