By Sonia Isotov
The Wailea Resort Association has issued a call for entries to “Art, Wine & Food,” an inaugural artwork competition in correlation with the 1st Annual Wailea Wine & Food Festival, taking place December 6 through 9, 2012.
This weekend of events will feature exceptional wine and culinary experiences and the Wailea Resort Association is seeking original artwork that will promote the event. A cash award of $600 and other prizes will be awarded for the winning artwork. Qualified entries will be on exhibit during the Wailea Wine & Food Festival.
All entries will represent a Maui/Wailea and culinary/wine theme in their presentation, and must be new and original. Art entries are open to all Maui County artists, age 21 and over and are being accepted through Tuesday, July 31, 2012.
“Art, wine and food share a creative connection and we want to challenge Maui’s talented artists to capture that relationship,” said Bud Pikrone, the general manager of the Wailea Resort Association.
“We want to support the local art community by selecting a unique piece of art as our festival image, and we hope this will become an ongoing tradition each year as the festival continues.”
All artwork submitted for the “Art, Wine & Food” competition will be qualified by a selection committee and displayed during the Wailea Wine and Food Festival. Patrons will be able to view and purchase these selections via silent auction, benefiting the Maui Culinary Academy.
