By Wendy Osher
Crews from the US Coast Guard on Maui are trying to locate the owner of a blue kayak found floating in south Maui waters on Saturday afternoon.
The kayak was found at around 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012, near the Menehune Shores condominium complex in Kihei.
According to the Coast Guard, no one had been reported to be in distress.
The kayak contained a milk crate, a computer bag with old food, a bicycle helmet, and a plastic fishing float, authorities said.
An urgent marine information broadcast was issued to see if any mariners in the area could identify the kayak.
The Coast Guard asks that anyone with information regarding the kayak contact the Sector Honolulu command center at (808) 842-2600.
