Molokai Motorcycle Fatality
By Wendy Osher
A motorcyclist on Molokai suffered fatal injuries in a single vehicle collision over the weekend.
Maui police have since identified the victim as Cami Naehu.
According to police reports, Naehu was traveling east on Kamehameha V Highway at around 4:57 p.m., on Saturday, June 23, 2012, when the accident occurred in an area east of Kaunakakai.
Authorities say Naehu was operating a yellow and black 2002 Honda CBR600F 4i motorcycle that crossed left of center, traveled into the west bound shoulder of the road, struck and berm, and collided into a tree.
Police say the impact of the collision caused the woman to be ejected from the motorcycle.
Naehu was transported to the Molokai General Hospital Emergency Room where she later succumbed to her injuries and died, police said.
Police say Naehu was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Police say the involvement of speed and alcohol are suspected; however they remain under investigation, along with other factors.
The accident was Maui County’s 15th fatality of 2012, compared to six at this same time last year.
