A High Surf Advisory was issued for the South facing shores of Maui County through 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2012.

The National Weather Service forecasts surf heights to be in the 5 to 8 foot range.  Forecast surf heights are the height of the face, or front of the waves.

A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.

There is also a high tide of approximately 2.9 feet is expected between 4:57 p.m. and 5:44 p.m. this afternoon.

As a precaution, beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shorebreak due to the hazardous wave action and strong rip currents.
