State crews continue road maintenance and repair projects across the island of Maui this week. The following are some key projects on tap for the week of August 4 to 10, 2012.
Hana Highway Storm Damage Repairs: Crews are conducting daily road maintenance on the Hana Highway to repair storm damage caused during heavy rains in March. Work runs between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. between mile 10 at the Garden of Eden and Mile 16, near the Keanae Peninsula. The highway will remain open during construction, but may be limited to one lane at times while repairs are being made. Repairs are expected to be completed by February 2013, weather permitting.
Honoapiilani Erosion Damage Repairs: In West Maui, work continues to repair ocean erosion damage that has undermined the shoulder lane foundation of the Honoapiilani Highway fronting Launiupoko State Park. Traffic in the area is shifted mauka while repairs are underway.
Paving/Restriping Various Locations: Paving and restriping work is being conducted in various locations on the island. This includes:
- West Maui along the Honoapiilani Highway at Kaniau Road. Two lane closures are in effect in both directions from Monday, August 6 through Wednesday, August 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily for road retriping;
- Upcountry Maui along the Kula Highway between Halekala and Naale Road. This includes alternating lane closures in both directions between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. daily on weekdays; and
- Kahului on Keolani Place between the Dairy Road Intersection and Palapala Drive. This includes single lane closures from Wednesday, August 8 to Friday, August 10, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Maalaea Harbor Sewer Line Construction: Crews continue work to construct water lines, sewer lines, and a water treatment facility at Maalaea Small Boat Harbor. There is a continuous road closure in effect along Maalaea Boat Harbor Road from the south Honoapiilani Highway entrance to Hauoli Road. The closure remains in effect through the end of August, 2012.
