OHA Launches Voter Education Campaign

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs is stepping up efforts to rally new voters for the November 6 General Election.

The campaign involves a new web page, enlisting celebrity spokespeople, and organizing registration drives across the state.

The new “Voter Education” web page features the candidates for the US Senate and House of Representatives and offers their views on various issues that concern Native Hawaiians.

The web page coincides with a statewide registration drive, named “Hawaiian Voice, Hawaiian Vote,” which OHA officials say has signed up at least 1,400 Native Hawaiians over a five-week period.

The new web page is accessible via the voter education link on the Office of Hawaiian Affairs website.

Celebrity spokespersons assisting with the campaign and registration efforts include professional football player Kealoha Pilares and singer Lehua Kalima.

OHA’s registration efforts also involve ad materials such as posters, radio and television commercials, newspaper advertisements and a Facebook page aimed at encouraging Native Hawaiians to vote.
