The County’s General Plan Committee visits the East Maui town of Hana next week to gather information and discuss the proposed directed growth plan for the area.

Hana is the final region the committee needs to consider before completing its review of Chapter 8 of the Maui Island Plan.

The meeting takes place at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at Helene Hall.

“I want to make sure that we give Hana residents the same opportunity that other residents of the island have had to express their views on the proposed directed growth plan for their community,” said Councilmember Gladys Baisa, who also serves as Chair of the General Plan Committee.

She noted that the remote location of Hana makes it more difficult for residents to travel to Wailuku to testify before the committee.

The General Plan Committee has already completed its review of the proposed directed growth plan for other regions of the island including: Wailuku-Kahului, Kihei-Makena, Makawao-Pukalani-Kula, Paia-Haiku, and West Maui.

Thursday’s meeting is open to the public.
