A 16-year-old Paia girl was extricated from a vehicle involved in a two-car collision this morning on Ka’ahumanu Avenue in Kahului, authorities said.

The accident was reported at 5:55 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at the Ka’ahumanu, Mahalani Street intersection.

Emergency crews took 21 minutes to extricate the patient because of technicalities involved with her location in the vehicle, said Ryan Joslin spokesperson for the Maui County Paramedics Association.

The girl, who was a front-seat passenger in a two-door sedan, became pinned when the dash of the vehicle folded down onto her upon impact with a second vehicle, said Joslin.

The teen was transported in stable condition to the Maui Memorial Medical Center with lower extremity injuries, according to medics.
