Hawaiian Airlines is doubling its nonstop flights between the Bay Area of California and Maui.
The additional flights adds nearly 90,000 new air seats annually to Maui, and is designed to better match capacity with consumer demand.
Effective October 3, flights will increase to 14 per week with daily flights to Maui from both Oakland and San José.
The current route schedule for Maui includes four flights per week between Oakland and Maui, and three flights per week between San José and Maui. The schedule this year included a brief six-week seasonal increase in service for the summer.
Airline officials say the increased Maui service will strengthen Hawaiian’s new Maui hub at Kahului Airport, offering expanded options for nonstop service and easy connections to neighbor island airports.
“We’ve seen tremendous demand for service to Maui from our customers in Oakland and San José, so we’re adjusting our schedules to better match their needs,” said Peter Ingram, Hawaiian’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer.
Concurrent with the increase in service to Maui, Hawaiian will also increased daily service from Oakland and San José to Honolulu. The O’ahu service from Oakland increase to four days per week, and service to Honolulu from San José will increase to three days per week.
As part of today’s announcement, Hawaiian is offering a special fare sale for travel between both Oakland and San José and all the airports Hawaiian serves in Hawai‘i. Round-trip prices start at $381 to Kahului; $351 to Lïhu‘e, Hilo, and Kona (For this fare, flight connections must go through Kahului); and $361 to Honolulu.
Tickets purchased under the fare sale must be booked by August 20 for travel completed by December 13, 2012. The special fares include all taxes and fees. Prices are subject to change and based on seat availability.
