Flags Lowered in Honor of Neil Armstrong, Aug. 31

Flags will be lowered in Hawai’i on Friday in memory of astronaut Neil Armstrong who became the first person to set foot on the moon.

Governor Neil Abercrombie ordered all national and Hawai’i flags at state offices and agencies as well as the Hawai’i National Guard facilities to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, August 31, 2012, on the day of his interment.

The Hawai’i proclamation comes of the heels of a similar Presidential Proclamation issued by President Barack Obama.

“Neil Armstrong’s legacy will endure as an inspiring example of what a nation can achieve when united in a single purpose,” said Gov. Abercrombie.

“Through iconic words and actions, Mr. Armstrong demonstrated that the greatest of human achievements are so often the culmination of the many small steps of dedicated individuals,” he said.
