Kula Hospital Enters Pink Glove Video Competition

Kula Hospital has entered this year’s Pink Glove Dance Competition, which aims to increase awareness for breast cancer and related research through entrant videos.

The nationwide competition between hospitals is sponsored by Medline for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

More than 250 organizations have already entered, and Kula Hospital hopes to make its mark with a Hawaii-themed video.

“We put out a call to our 200 employees to ask for their ideas, and we were so amazed and delighted by their response,” said Lorraine Zane, Employee Health Coordinator at Kula Hospital, who organized the project.

“Everyone pulled together to come up with some fun ideas including the Kamehameha girls volleyball team, the Kula Hospital hula ensemble, the Pink Paddlers, and of course our own wonderful employees,” said Zane.

The Kula Hospital entry video was produced by John Araki who donated his time and creativity to the project.

The video features people and places around Maui showing off their pink gloves and dancing to the Martina McBride song, “This One’s for the Girls.”

“We tried to show like the circle of the lei that we are all connected in our work, play and life,” said Zane.

In the event that the Kula Hospital video wins, organizers say they will donate the proceeds to Hui No Ke Ola Pono, a nonprofit organization, providing education, screenings and mammograms to uninsured and underinsured women.

The public can vote for the video until Nov. 2, 2012, by going to www.pinkglovedance.com and going to the section Vote for Organizations H-K, and voting for Kula Hospital. For more information contact Zane at 876-4311.
