No Tsunami Threat to Hawaii After 6.8 Earthquake in Kuril Islands

There is no tsunami threat to Hawaii following a 6.8 preliminary magnitude earthquake in the Kuril Islands that occurred at 8:13 a.m. on 11/16/12.

Officials with the USGS say the quake occurred at a depth of 4 km and was located: 101 miles SSW of Severo-Kuril’sk, Kuril Islands, Russia; 292 miles SSW of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, Russia; and 1230 miles NE of TOKYO, Japan.
