1.5 Acres Charred in Unscheduled Cane Burn

Firefighters on Maui responded to an unscheduled cane burn near the Paia Youth Center on Friday afternoon, November 30, 2012.

The incident was reported at 5:48 p.m. and burned an estimated 1.5 acres of sugar cane before crews brought the fire under control at 6:27 p.m.

Firefighters utilized water from Tanker-10, hand lines, and an existing fire break to control the fire.

After an in investigation into the cause, Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said the cause was undetermined.

Damage estimates were not available, and no injuries were reported.

Crews responding to the scene included units with Engine-2, Engine-10 and Tanker-10.
