A high surf advisory has been issued for the east facing shores of Maui and Molokai until 6 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2012.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say the trade wind swell will produce surf in the 7 to 9 foot range, peaking today, and gradually lowering to 6 to 8 feet on Friday.

The NWS advises that conditions will result in rough breaking waves that will cause hazardous conditions and dangerous rip currents.

As a precautionary measure, beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break due to the hazardous wave action.
