Haleakala Highway Brush Fire

Maui firefighters responded to a brush fire along the Haleakala Highway on Monday afternoon, which burned a 3,000 square foot section of dry grass and shrubbery.

The fire was reported shortly after 5 p.m. on the shoulder of the mauka bound lane, about a mile below the Haliimaile intersection, fire officials said.

Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said the fire was brought under control by 5:21 p.m., and extinguished by5:57 p.m.

Crews responding to the scene included Engine-10 and Tanker-10 from Kahului.

The cause of the fire was undetermined, and no monetary damages were reported.
