High Surf Advisory Through Tuesday for Maui, Molokai

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high-surf advisory for north-facing shore of Maui and Molokai.

The advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday, April 9.

A high surf advisory means that conditions are likely to produce rip currents and localized beach erosion.

A building west-northwest swell will peak Monday morning, and gradually decline into mid-week. Surf for north-facing shores will build to 12 to 16 feet.

Beach-goers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break due to the hazardous wave conditions, and should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Boaters should expect recreational surfers and body boarders utilizing harbor channels to access surfing areas.
