Deputy Director Named to Dept. of Hawaiian Home Lands

The governor today named Darrel T. Young to the post of deputy director of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.
Young is the current acting deputy director and director of communications for the DHHL.
In making the announcement, Gov. Neil Abercrombie pointed towards Young’s 27 years of experience in government, communications, and the community.
The governor released the following statement in a press release today:
“He (Young) has a proven track-record in building relationships and consensus within the community, and I am confident that his contribution to the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands will be significant.”
According to the Governor, Young’s previous work reportedly included time as chief of staff for former Honolulu City Councilman Nestor Garcia, information officer for the Housing and Community Development Corporation of Hawaiʻi, and a management executive role with the Hawaiiana Management Company.
Young’s appointment takes effect on May 1, 2013.
