Maui police have confirmed reports of a traffic accident on the pali section of the Honoapiʻilani Highway (Hwy 30) on the Lahaina side of the tunnel near mile marker-10.

The accident was reported at around 1:37 p.m., county officials said.

The vehicles involved were initially blocking the makai lane of travel, but shortly before 2 p.m., authorities said efforts were being made to move to the vehicles to the side.

In the interim, traffic was being contra-flowed in the area, utilizing the mauka or mountain-side lane of travel for alternating traffic control.

Authorities say there were injuries, the extent of which were not available at last report.

Motorists can expect delays.
