Volunteers Sought for Creation of New Makawao Mountain Bike Trail
By Wendy Osher
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources is seeking volunteers to help in the construction of a new mountain bike trail in the Makawao Forest Reserve.
The volunteer workday will take place on Saturday, July 27, and includes digging, raking, and finishing touches for the trail.
Officials with the DLNR’s Nā Ala Hele Trails and Access Program say significant progress was made during two earlier volunteer workdays conducted on July 6 and 13.
The trail is being constructed in cooperation with the International Mountain Biking Association and the Maui Mountain Biking Coalition.
According to DLNR officials the new mountain biking trail will run parallel to the existing multi-use trail for approximately two miles along the eastern leg of the Kahakapao Loop Trail.
Interested individuals are invited to meet at 8:30 a.m. on July 27th in the gravel parking lot of the Kahakapao Loop Trail.
