A Quonset hut and two parked cars were destroyed in a brush fire reported this morning in Haʻikū, Maui.
In addition, the structure fire also sparked a brush fire that burned two-acres of brush between Waipio Road and Honokalā Road, fire officials said.
Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said the fire started when sparks from welding ignited cardboard boxes nearby and spread to the rest of the structure.
Total damages were estimated at $102,000, including $85,000 worth of contents which included farming and shop equipment, FS Chief Mainaga said.
Fire personnel were called to the structure fire located at 250 North Honokalā Road at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16.
When crews arrived on scene, they found the 800-square-foot Quonset hut fully involved with fire, officials said.
The fire was extinguished shortly after 2 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
