West Maui Council Member, Elle Cochran, will serve on the National Association of Counties’ Agriculture and Rural Affairs Steering Committee, officials announced today.

This is the second steering committee that Cochran will have served on, after completing a term on the Environment, Energy and Land Use Steering Committee during the 2011-2012 term, the announcement said.

In her new capacity, Cochran and other members will help to establish goals and priorities relating to renewable energy, food safety and conservation.

“I am honored to join fellow county elected officials from across the nation who share my passion for agriculture and land preservation,” said Cochran in a press release statement.

“I am particularly looking forward to learning what other jurisdictions are doing on issues important to Maui County, such as food safety and support for our farmers,” she said.
