The Hawaiʻi Animal Rescue Foundation hosts a candlelight ceremony tonight to honor the pets who live their lives without the benefit of finding a loving home.

The event is intended to shine a light on the healthy pets who are awaiting adoption, and reduce the number of orphan pets that are euthanized each year, event organizers said.

The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. outside of Whole Foods Market in Kahului and includes a public candle-lighting ceremony.

Pledges will be accepted in honor of a pet or person, or a memorial for loved ones lost.

Councilman Mike White will announce that the Mayor Alan Arawaka signed a proclamation declaring the 4th Thursday of every September as Remember Me Thursday.
