Hiker Rescued in Fall Along Pali at Scenic Lookout

A 63-year-0ld man was rescued from the pali lookout on Maui after falling approximately 20- to 30-feet on Saturday evening, fire officials said.
The incident was reported at 6:52 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, about a quarter-mile south of the Scenic Lookout along the Honoapiʻilani Highway.
Firefighters from the Wailuku and Kahului stations responded to assist in the rescue.
Rescue personnel hiked about 25-feet down to the patient and provided first-aid in response to patient complaints of sore ribs and back pain, according to fire officials.
The man was secured in a basket and carried out by 12 personnel who walked the hiker out over “very rock y terrain and elevation.”
Maui Fire Battalion Chief Val Martin said, “It was a tough extrication due to the topography.”
Officials say the man was then transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition via crews from the American Medical Response, Medic-3 Unit.
