Two fishermen were airlifted to safety after being swept into the ocean at the area sometimes referred to as the “Olivine Pools,” located on the west side of Nākālele Point in West Maui.
The incident was reported at 5:19 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014.
According to department reports, the men, both approximately 25-year-old, were fishing when one of the fishermen attempted to untangle his fishing line from the rocks.
As the man was untangling his line, a wave swept him into the ocean and his friend jumped in after to offer help, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
The men were airlifted to safety by fire personnel from Rescue-10 and Air-1, and did not require medical attention.
Also responding to the scene were units from the department’s Engine-11 out of Lahaina.
