No Advisories After 3.5 Hawaiʻi Island Earthquake

There were no immediate advisories issued following a 3.5 preliminary magnitude earthquake reported at 1:25 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2014.

The quake was recorded at a depth of 6.8 miles and was located 4 miles NW of Waikoloa Village; 25 miles NNE of Kailua-Kona; 54 miles WNW of Hilo; and 65 miles WNW of Hawaiian Paradise Park, according to the US Geological Survey and the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

As of 3 p.m., more than 30 people had reported feeling the quake, most of them in the Kamuela area of Hawaiʻi Island.  It was felt as far away as Pahala, which is located 80 miles from the epicenter, according to data recorded by the USGS and HVO.

The quake is the latest of several on Hawaiʻi Island measuring above a 3.0 in magnitude in recent days including the following quakes documented by the USGS and the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory:

• 3.3 magnitude quake at 5:42 p.m. on Tues., March 11, 2014, 9.9 miles ESE of Pāhala;
• 3.6 magnitude quake at 10:44 a.m. on Sun., March 9, 2014, 2.8 miles SSE of the Kīlauea Summit; and
• 3.1 magnitude quake at 2:33 a.m. on Sun., March 9, 2014, 5.8 miles NNE of the Hualālai Summit.
