Fire Results in $60,000 in Damages to Haʻikū Home

A mother and son are receiving Red Cross assistance this morning following an afternoon fire on Thursday at their Aliʻi Koa Place residence in Haʻikū, fire officials said.
Fire crews from Pāʻia, Makawao, and Kahului responded to the incident, which was reported at 4:56 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014.
“The fire which started on the lānai consumed about 20% of the structure before being brought under control at 5:18 p.m.,” said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga, who noted that the cause is still under investigation.
Fire officials say no one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
The incident resulted in total damages of $50,000 to the structure, and $10,000 to the contents, according to FS Chief Mainaga.
