Forecasters with the National Weather Service are projecting surf of 5 to 8 feet along the east facing shores of Maui and Molokaʻi, prompting a high surf advisory for both islands through 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014.

The agency notes that advisory level conditions will result in rip currents and localized beach erosion along affected shorelines.

Forecasters with the NWS say the conditions will include “choppy surf, shore break, and strong longshore currents making, swimming difficult and dangerous.”

As a precaution, beach goers, swimmers and surfers are reminded to heed the advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution in affected areas.
