Job seekers have an opportunity to find new employment and explore career paths at the upcoming West Maui Job Fair hosted by Pacific Media Group. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Lahaina Cannery Mall in West Maui.
Event organizer Brandee Carvalho said the job fair is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates looking for a job and for others in the general community that are looking to advance or to get on the job training.
“There’s a nice variety of retail, food and beverage, and resort establishments that give those in attendance good options to choose from,” said Carvalho.
There are a total of 28 businesses signed up this year, the largest on record, including many first time job fair participants.
The complete list includes: Altres Hawaiʻi; Aloha International Employment; Aloha Petroleum; American Savings Bank; Cash N Carry; GNC; Hawaiʻi Petroleum; Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa; Jeans Warehouse; Kāʻanapali Beach Club; Modere; Montage Kapalua Bay; Nā Hōkū Pearl Factory; Office Max; Starwood Vacation Ownership; Sunglass Hut; Ululani’s Shave Ice & Ice Cream; Workforce Development; Wyndham Vacation Ownership; Enterprise Holdings; Longs Drugs; Starbucks; Lahaina Sunglass Company; Times Supermarket; Nāpili Kai Resort; Crazy Shirts; Lahaina Cruise Company; and Regal Wharf Cinema.
The event is now in its 14th year, and is one of at least two PMG Job Fairs hosted each year during the winter and summer months. This is the second summer job fair hosted by the company this year (the first was in May at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center), and marks a return of the event to the West side of the island since the last PMG West Maui Job fair held in 2012.
The event comes as the Maui County’s unemployment rate fell to 4.8% in July, down from the 5.0% reported a month earlier, and the 5.1% recorded at the same time last year. That according to new information released by the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.
According to the Department report, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the state was 4.4% in July, unchanged for the fourth consecutive month, and down from the 4.7% rate recorded at the same time last year.
