The Chamber of Maui Political Action Committee announced a partial endorsement list for the 2014 general election.

The group was comprised of several Chamber members, the majority of which are business owners, who interviewed candidates for state and county offices.

Due to the impacts and preparation for Hurricane Iselle, the group was unable to schedule interviews with the candidates for the Federal races, but anticipate doing so in the near future.

So far, the group has released their endorsements for this year’s county and state races including the following:

  • Governor: Duke Aiona
  • Senate District 6 (Kahakuloa-Waiehu, Wailuku-Kahului, Kapalua-Lahaina, Olowalu-Kīhei, Wailea): Roz Baker
  • House District 8 (Kahakuloa-Waiehu, Wailuku-Kahului): Joe Souki
  • State House District 10 (West Maui, Mā‘alaea, North Kīhei): Angus McKelvey
  • House District 12 (Wailuku-Kahului, Olowalu-Kīhei, Wailea, Makawao-Kula, Haʻikū): Richard Pohle
  • Mayor: Alan Arakawa
  • Councilmember East Maui (Hāna-Keʻanae-Kailua): Bob Carroll
  • Councilmember Kahului: Don Guzman
  • Councilmember Makawao-Haʻikū-Pāʻia: Mike White
  • Councilmember Molokaʻi: Stacy Crivello
  • Councilmember South Maui: Don Couch
  • Councilmember Upcounty: Gladys Baisa
  • Councilmember Wailuku-Waiheʻe-Waikapū: Joseph Blackburn
  • Councilmember West Maui: Ka’ala Buenconsejo

According to a Chamber of Maui Political Action Committee announcement, a full report will be available in the near future on the Chamber’s website to let the public know more about the process, the questions asked of the candidates, and scoring that was used in determining endorsements.
