Justice Professor is Sole Maui Recipient of Regents’ Medal

A professor at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College is among a list of 15 UH faculty members who have been selected as recipients of the Regents’ Medal of Excellence in Teaching.

Ryan Daniels, an assistant professor in the Administration of Justice Department at UHMC is a former policeman and subject matter expert.

University administrators describe Daniels’ teaching style as “energetic” and “contagious,” saying he brings his life experiences to the classroom, and inspires students in the criminal justice program.

Recipients of the award were selected for their mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity, and personal values that prove to be beneficial to students.

In making the announcement, administrators said Daniels is, “gifted with multiple talents,” including an, “ability to convey information to a diverse audience surpasses students’ expectations.”

“He is not only a teacher, but also a mentor who cares about the overall success of a student,” the announcement said.

Daniels was the only Maui recipient included on the list.

University of Hawaii President David Lassner commented in a university press release saying, “University of Hawai‘i teachers and researchers are world-class, in subjects ranging from automotive technology and justice administration to marine biology and astronomy. We thank these outstanding teachers and researchers for their service and dedication. They truly make a difference in the lives of our students and in our community.”
