A Haʻikū man has since died of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash reported on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, on West Kuiaha Road, police said.

Police have since identified the man as 26-year-old Zachery Callender, and say he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning, Oct. 14, at the Maui Memorial Medical Center.

According to police, the motorist was travelling down West Kuiaha Road at around 4:06 p.m. on Sunday, when he lost control of the black Jeep Wrangler he was driving, failed to negotiate a turn, and collided into a tree.

Police say the incident was the 19th traffic fatality on Maui County roads compared to 11 at the same time last year.
