Haleakalā Reopens, Visitor Center Without Power

Haleakalā NP reopened at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014

The Summit and Kipahulu Districts of Haleakalā NP reopened at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014. While the park reports no significant damage from Tropical Cyclone Ana, the summit visitor center at the 9,740 foot elevation remained without power on Sunday morning.

Visitors are asked to use restrooms at the Park Headquarters Visitor Center. Motorist are advised to stay alert while driving to reach both districts of the park as tree and rock falls can occur hours after heavy rains on any roads.

All County Parks to Reopen Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014

The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation announced that all county parks, recreational facilities and campgrounds are scheduled to reopen today, Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014.

Parks facilities were closed on Saturday due to the unpredictability of weather conditions related to Tropical Cyclone Ana. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19, and a High Surf Advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014.

Users and permit holders are being contacted about today’s scheduled reopening.
