Lahaina Man Arrested After Alleged Machete Attack

An 18-year-old Lahaina man was arrested on assault charges for allegedly attacking a man and woman with a machete during an altercation in Lahaina late Thursday night, Oct. 30, 2014, police said.
Police say Maamaloa Uhila, 18, of Lahaina was arrested and charged with two counts of first degree assault and was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail at last report.
According to police reports, the adult male victim was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries; and the adult female victim suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.
The incident was reported at around 11:28 p.m. at the intersection of Front Street and Lahainaluna Road in West Maui.
Police say Uhila fled the scene prior to police arrival, but returned to the scene while officers were still conducting an investigation.
According to police reports, Uhila was positively identified as the suspect by witnesses, and transported to the Lahaina Station for processing.
Officers also recovered the alleged weapon as evidence in the case.
