Hoʻokipa to Close Nov. 18 for Installation of New Lifeguard Tower
By Maui Now Staff
Hoʻokipa Beach Park along the north shore of Maui will be closed for safety reasons on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014 during the installation of a new lifeguard tower, state officials announced.
The new tower is being placed near the pavilions on the Haʻikū side of the park, according to an announcement issued by the state Department of Parks and Recreation.
Officials say a crane that will be used to install the new tower will be stationed in the middle of the one-way road that runs through the park.
Due to the lack of room to provide a safe detour during the tower installation, the park will be completely closed to the public during the installation, the announcement said.
The park is expected to reopen on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014.
