The Poʻohala Project host the 1st annual Maui Makahiki Fest 2014 on Saturday, Nov. 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Maui Tropical Plantation in Waikapū.

The free event is focused on bringing the community together in the spirit of abundance, gratitude, peace, and healing.

According to Hawaiian tradition, Makahiki was a time to gather, harvest gifts of the land, celebrate the new year, and refrain from war.

The inaugural event will feature a host of entertainment including: Hapa, Kamakakehau Fernandez, Makana, Leiohu Ryder, and Marty Dread.

Those in attendance are also invited to participate in Makahiki lawn games and lei making contest, and visit educational and cultural exploration tents.

The event is sponsored by Hawaiʻi Center for Food Safety, Maui Tropical Plantation, Hawaiʻi Farmers Union United – West Maui Mauna Kahalawai Chapter and the Poʻohala Project.
