Maui Fire Department and EMS Respond to Incidents at Red Sand Beach, Hāna

Maui Fire Department and EMS personnel responded to two separate medical incidents at Red Sand Beach today.
The first incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3.
A 50-yr old male hiking with his wife fell 15 feet down from the trail leading to the beach. Engine 7 (Hāna Station), Medic 7, and Air 1 with Rescue 10 responded to the incident. The injured male was prepared for rescue, lifted from the trail, and transported to the Hāna ball field where Medi-Vac transporet him to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
His injuries included a broken arm and head trauma. His status is unknown at this time.
The second incident occurred at 2:30 p.m. A 64-yr old local male suffered a heart attack while with a group of friends at the beach. Engine 7 (Hāna Station), Medic 7, and Air 1 with Rescue 10 responded to the incident. Emergency personnel were unable to stabilize the victim and he died at the scene. His identity has been withheld pending notification of his family.
