Kai Lenny was born and raised on Maui to parents that love the ocean as much as he does. Kai learned how to surf at the age of 4, windsurf at 6, stand up surf at 7 and kite surf at 9. His passion for big wave surfing also started at a very young age and he caught his very first Pe’ahi wave at the age of 16. We caught up with Kai after an all-day surf session at Pe’ahi “Jaws”. He welcomed us into his home to show us just what it takes to be a big wave surfer. We talk safety, equipment and about the rush. He also shares some crazy stories! There’s one wipeout in particular that had him out of the water for a month.

“I cut my foot in half… My foot was spread so much that when I held it up I could see the helicopter through it.”
