SLIM Training Offers ‘Lean & Green’ Strategies for Businesses
By Maui Now Staff
The Sustainable Living Institute of Maui is offering a new training to help businesses reduce their energy costs while reaping benefits for themselves and customers.
The program is called “Introduction to Lean & Green Strategies,” and employs techniques to use time and resources more efficiently, save on costs and energy usage, and enhance revenues while limiting environmental impacts. The strategy originated at the Toyota Car Company in Japan.
The “lean” approach aims to eliminate: defects, overproduction, waiting, non-utilized resources, transportation, inventory, motion and extra processing. The “green” aims to improve: full use of raw materials, energy efficiency, water conservation, eliminating toxic materials and reducing waste, emissions to air and water, solid and hazardous waste and regulatory obligations and risks.
The two-session, five-hour training is offered by Mark Ausbeck, senior project manager at High Technology Development Corporation/INNOVATE HI.
To register for the training, visit edventuremaui.com and click “Career Training,” and then “Sustainable Development” or call Melanie Stephens at 984-3502. The cost to register is $125. Register before Friday, Jan. 30, to receive a 10 percent discount.
