Hāna Fire Station Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety celebrates the 20 year anniversary of the Hāna Fire Station in East Maui on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015.

In celebration of the milestone, the station will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday featuring refreshments, tours and information.

On another note, firefighters with the Hāna Station report making progress with the “Find Us 911” project, that was launched by Hāna firefighter Gale Notestone years ago.

The project, which is Maui’s only address project, is aimed at helping first responders locate incidents in rural areas where addresses are sometimes non-existent or hard to find.

The project’s motto, “if we can’t find you, we can’t help you,” has been promoting and producing reflective address signs as part of their ongoing effort to ensure effective and timely response.

According to Notestone, the Kaupō Community Association recently purchased one of the reflective signs for the old Kaupō School, located along the Piʻilani Highway on the back road to Hāna.
